INDIA'S FERTILIZER subsidy bill for fiscal 2008/09 has exceeded budgeted levels by an estimated Rs650 billion ($6.2 billion), according to local media reports. For the current fiscal, which runs April 1, 2008 to March 31, 2009, the original budget had provided for a total of Rs309.86 billion as subsidy payable to the country's fertilizer companies.
