Canesta awarded 37th patent for CMOS 3D sensor tech

Electronic perception technology pioneer Canesta Inc., inventor of a family of low-cost, chip-based 3D sensors, received their 37th granted U.S. patent in late December 2008, following four others that issued in the last quarter of 2008, making of total of 12 for the year. 3D sensors are emerging as a key enabling technology for advanced automotive safety - such as backup warnings or seat occupant characterization - and more recently for touchless gesture recognition.
