BRAZIL'S DEMAND for domestically produced fertilizers and imports in the first half of 2011 was much stronger than expected by producers. The increase in deliveries is attributed to the higher application for maize winter crop and wheat, as well as, to anticipated purchases for the planting season beginning in September, mostly for the soybeans crop. Limitations on domestic production capacity led producers to import product to cover the shortfall in requirements.
