Here's a little bit of wildland/urban interface (WUI) trivia for you: How old is the WUI? Before the WUI's "official" existence in the United States, the Weeks Act of 1911, which focused primarily on forested lands, was one of the first pieces of legislature that allowed the federal government to purchase land for resource protection, and called for fire protection through cooperation.
