Installation of Wood Chip-Based Deodorizers in Stock Farms

Complaints about bad smells are the most frequent problems arising as to the livestock farming environment. In 2007, grievances concerning bad odors were estimated at about 60% of all stock raising-related problems, and this ratio had not changed verygreatly since around 1989. During those years, while the number of complaints was roughly on similar levels, that of livestock farmers decreased. Thus it is considered that the rate of grievances filed per farmer went up, and the problem of bad smells from stock farms has been left unsettled. As rural land is being steadily built up, it will be impossible to solve the problem unless some steps are taken to reduce the discharge of bad smelling substances into neighboring areas, especially in the case where houses stand close to the cattle shed and where the wind tends to blow from the stock farm to the community. In the worst case, farmers may find it difficult to continue the operation of their stock farm in the area.
