Diesel fumes and cancer

Diesel fuel was reclassified almost five years ago by the World Health Organisation (WHO) as a definite carcinogen, in the same category as plutonium, sunlight and alcohol.The WHO's International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) at the time of the announcement said everyone should try to reduce their exposure to diesel fumes.According to the IARC, farmers are part of a high-risk group who are about 40 per cent more likely to develop lung cancer than the general population.
