ISO 9000:2000: 'Brace yourselves for a standards shake-up'

A wasteful ISO 9000 "shadow system" prevails at a fair number of the 400000 companies worldwide that are registered to ISO 9000, where "the quality management system remains disconnected from the overall management of the company," wrote Industry Week journalist David Drickhamer. The comments were attributed to experts in his article entitled, "Standards Shake-Up" posted on the publication's Web site~(1)).Mr. Drickhammer wrote that companies which pay lip service to ISO 9000 certification should "brace themselves for a shake-up" because the revised 2000 version of ISO 9000 will demand "more than token participation from top management".
