CEMBUREAU and the Cement Sustainability Initiative (CSI), which operates under the aegis of the World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD), have decided to join forces to systematically collect data on CO_2 emissions for all of Europe. This European exercise is part of a more ambitious, worldwide plan to proceed with data collection throughout the cement industry in the world. In order to allow an accurate assessment of CO_2 emissions from the cement industry and, hopefully, to lay the first stone of a sectoral approach, it is necessary to use a common language. CEMBUREAU has decided to proceed with the collection in accordance with the WBCSD-CSI Protocol, a well established tool which CEMBUREAU adopted as a standard for Europe in 2003.
