Hot end and cold end coating of glass containers

"Related to the actual profit and advantage, coating on glass containers is, in principle, too expensive and inefficient". This original statement has been given some years ago by a production manager of a glass factory. Today, this estimation is still predominating in some purchasing departments. Both the conditions of some hot end and cold end systems and laboratory measurements clearly demonstrate the insufficient knowledge in the combination of technique, physics and chemistry.Of course, the main focus with respect to production facilities is the optimum manufacture of glass containers. Particularly the actual economically tense situation often allows only insufficient capacities and time available for adequate maintenance.
