One of the main announcements of 2005 was glass manufacturer Wiegand-Glas' intention to enter into a joint venture with the packaging company Nampak. Wiegand-Glas is set to acquire a 50 percent stake in Nampak Glass for 18 million euros Part of the agreement in principle is a commitment towards a substantial investment programme aimed at upgrading and enhancing current production facilities and some capacity expansion. The companies have also agreed to a further investment of approximately ?4 million over the next three years. The transaction has been approved by the local competition authorities and the company will be known as Nampak Wiegand Glass.
