Cage Manlift Inspections: THE OWNER'S RESPONSIBILITIES TOWARD KEEPING MANLIFTS SAFE AND OPERATIONAL

Cage manlifts are the most common type of personnel elevators found in grain and feed facilities. The governing safety code for these manlifts is administered by the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, ASME A17.1, "Safety Code for Elevators andEscalators." Most states have adopted the 2000 or later editions of this code to regulate these manlifts. Some states have modified the ASME code, most frequently to put in additional requirements, such as a requirement for a telephone in the car. Certification requirements and required testing frequency also can vary from state to state, though most require annual inspections.
