Million-Bushel Addition

For decades, the countryside in northeast Kansas around what is now a Farmers Cooperative grain elevator in Hanover, KS (785-337-2222), was dominated by hard red winter wheat. That's no longer the case. In recent years,producers have switched a lot oftheir acreage to better yielding and often more profitable fall crops such as corn and soybeans. Corn, in particular, can yield three times the bushels per acre that wheat yields when grown dryland in this part of the state, more when under center pivot irrigation.
