With the world's leading producers expected to harvest record crops, world soyabean production is tentatively projected to increase markedly in 2009/10. On the basis of better than anticipated average yields, the official US soyabean crop estimate wasraised by 1.3m. tons in January, to a record 91.5m., up 13% on 2008/09 and more than 4.0m. above the previous all-time high in 2006/07. In the southern hemisphere, planting of this year's crop is almost complete in Argentina, with January rains aiding development. On the basis of record plantings and a rebound in average yields, production in 2010 is expected to increase to 51.0m. tons, the highest ever and up by 60% on last year's drought-affected outturn. In Brazil, where harvesting is underway, beneficial precipitation bas improved crop prospects, with the official forecast recently raised to a record 65.2m. tons (57.0m.). Elsewhere, larger sowings and substantially improved productivity should underpin a strong rise in production in Paraguay, to 6.7m. tons (3.9m.).
