Chances are, if you are reading this article and have a machine shop with the basic machines and tooling, you can compete in this "OLD WORLD" quite nicely. I'll cover some basic ideas that are not related to machining that we use to make this venture profitable with minimum problems. You are all used to crankshafts, pistons, valve train; most old engines have these basic items in some form or other. They are not really different than the high performance stroker engine you labored over to make a small profit on because everybody is doing it, and the customer can buy or get one done anywhere. With nothing more than your basic machines, some parts locating and some sort of specifications, you can be billing down time hours that are not normally billed as basic labor code operations. These old engines can be a good monthly income.
