The Port ofVancouver, WA USA is expanding its rail access and grain handling to be an aggressive player in conveying Midwestern grain to a hungry Asian market. The facility on the Columbia River between Washington and Oregon is engaged in a $150+ million upgrade linking railcars with ocean freighters. "A game changer for the port and its customers" is how the project is described by Curtis Shuck, director of development and facilities for the Port of Vancouver USA. Officially, the initiative is known as the West Vancouver Freight Access (WVFA), and according to Shuck the expansion will accommodate better mainline rail access for unit trains, as well as facilitate train movement within the port.
