IN the midst of biotechnology and other trends shaking the crop protection industry, Rhone-Poulenc Ag Co., Research Triangle, NC, plans to carve its niche with classes of chemistry new to the U.S. corn market. Results from the 1996 Experiment Use Permit (EUP) test-plots for Balance WDG herbicide and Regent 80WG insecticide — two products using this chemistry — look promising. The company hopes to amass major market share in corn with these and other products by 2002, according to Dave Downing, product manager for Balance. "We took some considerable economic risks to get the new chemistry to market as quickly as possible," says Downing.
