How a Financial Crisis Impacted Russia's Agriculture Markets

Cereal, sunflower and corn comprise the bulk of the country's $1.1 billion crop protection market.Russia covers 9% of the total agricultural area on our planet, but provides only 1.5% of the global agricultural production.Most of Russian agricultural area is found in an environmentally risky zone, limiting possibilities for growing different crops and limiting hopes for high yields. This explains why cereal crops are grown on 40 million hectares, making them the by far the most important crops for the country. Altogether, agriculture accounts for approximately 4% of Russian GDP.
