摘要

Electricity production in the horticultural sector amounted to 11 billion kWh in 2008, about 10 per cent of the total production. ogeneration has been increasing since 2005 in Western Europe and in particularly in Dutch horticulture. The main reason for growers to invest in CHP (combined heat and power) is to reduce energy costs. An important advantage is also the availability of more CO2 by using a CHP compared with a traditional gas boiler. By the end of 2009, CHP capacity in the horticultural in the Netherlands was about 2,700 MW (see chart). The political decision to open the energy market was mainly due to this growth, which gave the horticultural sector the opportunity to make profits by selling self-produced electricity. The electricity production in the horticultural sector amounted to 11 bilhon kWh in 2008. That is about 10 per cent of the total production of 108 billion kWh in the Netherlands.
