Policies to promote growth focus of ministers' conference

Helping Canadian farmers and processors build on their strengths to seize opportunities in world markets in the face of fiscal restraint, tough competition and new international trading rules, topped the list of priorities discussed at the recent annual conference of agriculture ministers. Ministers saw these efforts as building on the record export pace of Canadian agri-food products. Canada exported 15 billion dollar worth of agri-food products last year, up 15 per cent from 1993. Results for the first quarter of 1995 show a further 24 per cent increase.
