Steady growth continues for Jeffery's: family operation a good example of vitality of industry in Niagara region

Quiet, steady growth is the formula for the success of the Niagara greenhouse community. Dubbed the Floriculture Capital of Canada, and for good reason, it is one of the largest centres if not the largest centre -- of potted plant production in NorthAmerica. Total acreage has grown from 11.75-million square feet in 1992, to about 14-million today, the majority in flowers with some vegetable production. The industry directly employs about 3,000 people. The farmgate value of sales is 300-million dollar, notes long-time industry consultant Tony Thompson of the Niagara Economic and Tourism Corporation.
