Growers from across Canada at JVK Grower Day

Over 700 growers, from as far away as Newfoundland and British Columbia, attended this year's JVK Grower Day held at the Niagara Parks Botanical Gardens in Niagara Falls. The educational format was expanded by JVK this year, with morning and afternoon sessions. As well, representatives of the breeders with display beds in the Gardens were on hand to highlight the new varieties being introduced and give growers a chance to see how well they perform. Growers stayed late into the afternoon for a closer look, and the chance to talk to the breeders. Featured were display beds by Bodger, Bodger Botanicals, Goldsmith, Pan American, Benary, Oglevee, Proven Winners, Flower Fields, Sakata, Takii, Floranova, and Syngenta. The speaker sessions, moderated by JVK national sales manager Carmen Roblin, filled up quickly. A Knowledge Comer booth was set up within the display bed area at which growers could meet with the speakers between seminars. Kerstin Ouellet of Pen & Petal Communications is the author of TheEuroAmerican Container Garden Cookbook. Her topic was, Mixed Container Recipes for the Professional Grower. Containers are continuing to increase in gardening popularity, she said, and the prices reflect that demand. "The perceived value is fairly high."
