Turkey Fancy: Time to show off - Janice Houghton-Wallace looks forward to the turkeys at the National Show but not to new legislation

It is now thirteen years since I first took part in the National Show turkey classes. Then it was a class for male and a class for female, with four birds forward. With Peter Hayford's help and that of many other turkey enthusiasts, the turkey displayhas grown considerably and I am hoping that there will be a good exhibition of these amazing birds at this year's show. Turkey Club UK holds it's Club Show at the National so there are now classes for each variety as well as a Trio class and Junior class. The National is the best opportunity to look at the turkeys and I would encourage anyone interested in keeping them or taking their judging test at some point to take a few minutes to examine the birds against each other. If anyone would like to talkthrough the pros and cons of each bird after judging please do not hesitate to find either Peter or myself and we will help you all we can.
