Once a year poultry houses should be given a really thorough clean out. It is preferable to do this in the spring because then the weather is genial, the ravages of the winter can be repaired, the rapidly increasing body parasites can be killed off before they do damage, and the winter-tired layers can be given a welcome fillip. For this spring cleaning the first thing is to take out all removable fittings, then comes the clearing away of the floor and nest box litter, and dust bath material. Havingfreed the floor of litter, you will now find patches of flattened and caked droppings, especially beneath the hoppers and water founts. The whole of this caked material must be spaded and scraped up. Walls and "ceiling" should be brushed with a stiff broom and all flaked areas of lime-wash scraped clean.
