Kenny Stewart changed to using biologicals to save money. He didn't, but he has no regrets about his decision. Before Kenny Stewart bought a 6(1/2)-acre green- house operation in Mount Dora, Fla., six years ago, he considered the pluses and minuses ofthe foliage production facility. One thing he considered was the encroachment of housing developments on the property. Houses are now within 25 feet of the greenhouses. When Stewart purchased the operation, he told head grower Lourie McDougal that theyneeded to grow as naturally as they could. Most of the people in the homes around the operation were retirees. Stewart was well aware that some of them had concerns about what was going on in the greenhouses. "I decided that we were going to try to go asnatural as possible," Stewart said. "Lourie was really happy about my decision. She said we had to work in this place so it was better for all of us." Stewart said the previous owner had used two foggers to apply chemicals. "We actually gave the foggers away," he said. "I told the previous owner we didn't want them and that he should just take them with him."
