Igor Yusufov – board member of Russian oil and gas major Gazprom – slammed shale-gas fracking as “unprofitable” and a “very harmful thing for the environment” during an April 25 radio interview. Among U.S. gas-fracking boosters, the Gazprom executive’s statements likely will be dismissed as sour grapes, as they emanate from a Russian natural-gas competitor to potentially large North American liquefied natural gas (LNG) exports to big European markets.
