Global CO2 Emissions to Hit Record in 2013; China Lead Emitter

Researchers at the University of East Anglia (U.K.) announced November 15 the results of a study showing that global carbon-dioxide (CO2) emissions are set to hit an all-time record of 36 billion tonnes. According to new figures from the “Global Carbon Project” – co-led by researchers from the Tyndall Centre for Climate Change Research at the University of East Anglia – a 2.1% rise in CO2 emissions projected for 2013 means global emissions from burning fossil fuel are 61% above 1990 levels, the baseline year for the Kyoto Protocol.
