Trick or Treat!These aren't your typical Halloween decorations

One of my favorite occasions as we head into fall is Halloween. Pumpkins, gourds and deep, dark colors fill our gardens, while spooky white ghosts hang from trees announcing theSeason. There is also mystery in the garden, signaling the end of a growing season, saying goodbye to our favorite annuals, another year gone by. The aging process can be a little spooky, too, as flowers begin to go to seed, spots forming on the grasses,drying seedpods, crinkling and contortions become more pronounced.When the kids were small, I would decorate with sweet smiling pumpkins, cheerful waving blow-up ghosts and dried corn stalks with bows. Now I sit back wearing my witch's hat after adorning the front stoop with all the black crows and spider webs I can get my hands on at the local craft store. The neighborhood youngsters are adorable in their Cinderella and GI Joe costumes, while the older kids scare the fool out of me as zombies and freakish bloody murderers.
