gamma-ray mass attenuation coefficients for 662 and 1173 keV energies have been measured experimentally and calculated theoretically for PbO-B_2O_3-SiO_2 and Bi_2O_3-B_2O_3-SiO_2 glasses. These results have been further used to calculate effective atomic number and half value layer parameters. Considerable variations in these parameters have been observed with changes in composition and photon energy. The mixture rule being observed to be valid for these glass systems. The radiation shielding properties of these glasses have been compared with those of standard concretes.
