I was born on the cold Canadian prairies in 1961 and my greatest passion as a child was for making things. I often started projects too complex for my age - and thus wrought failure - but I was fascinated by the creative process. I thought the greatest thing you could be was an artist. I had the great fortune to take three years of art classes with a wonderful teacher in high school, where I learned the basics of jewelry making, pottery and metal work. And yet my first successful creative endeavors were in writing. As a young woman I worked in radio, which led me to writing fiction for teens. In all, I created six award-winning novels before I felt ready to move on to something else.
