Ian Woods (BGS) writes I was looking at my embarrassingly large collection of plastic dinosaur kits recently and found myself wondering whether they had evolved? The first kit models of dinosaurs were produced by a company called PYRO in 1958, they were simple, with few pieces and lacking in detail, as you can see from the T. rex, illustrated in Fig. 11. By modern standards they seem pretty 'clunky'; the body shape is generalized and the head even more so. Remarkably, even though these kits were very simple, some of them models were still being produced in 1993 (a Stegosaurus and a hadrosaur) produced to cash in on the release of the feature film Jurassic Park, so one has to concede that this was a highly successful and long-lived group of dinosaur kits.
