Commentary to Discussion on the Integration of in Vivo Genotoxicity Testing to General Toxicity Study in the 5th International Workshop on Genotoxicity Testing (IWGT)

The 5th International Workshop on. Genotoxicity Testing (IWGT) was held on August 17-19, 2009, at Biozentrum of the. University of Basel, Switzerland. IWGT has held 4 previous workshops, (Melbourne, 1993; Washington, 1999; Plymouth, 2002; San Francis-co, 2005) (1). The consensus recommendations from these workshops have been highly influential, in shaping the revisions to OECD guidelines and the recommenda-tions in the ICH S2A and S2B guidance (2). At the 5th IWGT, some topics were discussed, e.g:, how to reduce "false" positive results in vitro, how to reduce animal usage; and thresholds for genotoxic effects. These topics were discussed by 6 working groups.
