After the Tsuji's brilliant contribution in the area of Pd-cata-lyzed decarboxylative protonation and allylation, many research groups used the reactions in a variety of synthesis.For decarboxylative protonation, the combination of HCOOH/Et3N was used most frequently as the hydrogen source. Recently Meldrum's acid and water have been used as the hydrogen donor. Recently we reported an efficient synthesis of 1,5-di-carbonyl compounds from Baylis-Hillman adducts by using Pd-mediated decarboxylative protonation strategy. In the reaction we used aqueous CH3CN as the reaction medium to provide the hydrogen atom.
