Central Asia - Upstream Gazprom to spend $500 million on exploration at four Tajikistan gas fields

Gazprom has announced that it has signed an agreement with the Tajik government to build up local gas infrastructure and to develop the four main gas fields to enable it to achieve gas independence. Gazprom deputy chairman Valery Golubev met the Tajiki president, prime minister and energy ministers on Tuesday, and afterwards announced that they had formed an agreement that would allow Tajikistan to reduce and eventually remove its dependence on Uzbekistan gas imports.
