Beach Energy strikes major gas find in Australia’s Cooper Basin

Australia-headquartered explorer Beach Energy claims to have uncovered a major new gas reserve of as much as 600 Tcf - nearly 200 times its home nation’s annual consumption - in the Nappamerri Trough in the Cooper Basin in central Australia. Beach CEO Reg Nelson was reported on Thursday as saying that that exploration - run as a joint venture with Chevron and Icon Energy - found 600 metres of gas-soaked sandstone underlying known gas-bearing reserves - giving gas across a vertical depth of 1 km and a 5,000 sq. km area.
