Wirth to build underwater drilling unit

THE German government has given the green light to the project 'Go Subsea', which will allow the environmentally sound exploitation of raw materials on the seabed. Acting as project leader is Wirth, a producer of machinery and large drilling rigs for energy recovery, mining and infrastructure. The reason for the research project is the increasing shortage of oil and gas resources. These circumstances are now making production areas interesting which, until recently, would not have been considered economical. These include undersea deposits. Due to their depth (sometimes reaching 2,000 m) and, in many cases, their position in bad weather zones or the Arctic Ocean, they make extreme demands on the recovery technology.
