Dossier: Landscape ecology and management.

摘要

Three short papers are included, covering topics illustrating approaches to (rural) landscape management which take into account the type and value of ecosystems. The editors provide an overview, pointing out that the ecological status and functionsof a landscape are now seen to be important constraints in the planning process. The papers are: the value (cultural, historical as well as economic) of the centuriated landscape of the Veneto region in NE Italy; perceptions and interpretations of landscape in the Dolomite mountain area; and birds as biological indicators of toxins in the landscape.
