When the practice of a profession impacts vitally on matters of public safety, health or welfare the public has a vested interest in such practice and has the right to require the profession to be regulated so as to ensure that the best interests of the public are served and protected. Geology is one such a profesison, and exploration, mining, environmental, hydrological and engineering geology, in particular, are disciplines that significantly affect public safety, health or welfare in one way or another.
