Hydraulic engine mounts (HEMs) or hydraulically damped rubber mounts are vibration-isolating components that have an upper and a bottom chamber, and the hydraulic fluid can flow under pressure between the upper chamber and the bottom chamber. Hydraulic engine mounts can take advantage of the damping characteristic of flowing liquid and the vibration isolation characteristics of rubber mounts to acquire the characteristics of high stiffness and damping at low frequency and low stiffness and damping at high frequency,1,2 so they can provide a dual damping mode of a passive vibration isolator to control high-amplitude, low-frequency road-induced vibrations as well as low-amplitude, high-frequency engine-induced vibrations. Hydraulic engine mounts can greatly decrease the noise in the passenger compartment, thereby increasing comfort to meet increasing customer demand for quieter and smoother-riding vehicles.3,4
