Intraperitoneal bleeding after oral double-balloon enteroscopy: a case report and review of the literature.

The small bowel, with its length, location, and tortuosity, is relatively inaccessible and difficult to completely evaluate with conventional endoscopic modalities. Double-balloon enteroscopy (DBE), first described by Yamamoto et al, allows for the examination of the entire small intestine. In addition, therapeutic maneuvers, such as biopsy, polypec-tomy, balloon dilation, and argon plasma coagulation, can be routinely performed.Although it is generaily a very safe procedure, complications related to DBE continue to be described. In this report, we present a case of intraperitoneal bleeding after DBE.
