Application of growth Inhibitors in the cultivation of primulas

At the LVG Heidelberg tests on the application of Inhibitors in primula cultivation were carried out in 2002. Here, the inhibitors Topflor (0.05 per cent and 0.1 per cent), Cycocel 720 (0.2 per cent) as well as the fungicide Desmel (0.05 per cent) were tested on the variety 'Corona Pink' (Syngenta Seeds). After three applications of amounts of 80 to 100 ml/m~2 (Topflor) and 140 to 160 ml/m~2 (Cycocel 720 and Desmel) respectively in weeks 39, 41 and 46, a clear inhibiting effect on the leaf growth was found with those plants that were treated with Desmel in comparison with those plants that were treated with other substances. The selling date of those plants treated with Desmel and Cycocel was delayed by one wreck. The flower stem length was only significantly shortened when Topflor was applied in a concentration of 0.1 per cent. Damage to flowers was not observed with any of the applied substances, the brightening of leaf colour was only observed after application of Cycocel 720. The applicationof Desmel led to a dark green leaf colour, which must not be compared with an exaggerated N-nutrition.
