The 2011 impact factor (IF) results were released at the end of June this year by Thomson Reuters in their annual Journal Citation Reports, and I am happy to report that Eye & Contact Lens (ECL) had an impressive 23% jump in the rankings as a result of an increase in cited articles. The IF is now 1.252 and ranked 34th of the 56 Ophthalmology/Eye journals with an IF, compared with the 38th ranking and 1.022 IF of 2010. Bear in mind that this is only the second year that ECL has had an IF. Progress in Retinal Eye Research was the top ranked journal with an IF of 10.252 followed by Ophthalmology and the American Journal of Ophthalmology. The IF is a calculation used to estimate the frequency with which an average article in a journal is cited over a 2-year time period. A more detailed report with the top cited articles in ECL will be forthcoming in the next issue.
