Daylilies are a great addition to borders as their brightly coloured flowers will inject so much life into colour schemes. The wild species are mostly yellow or orange, but there are nearly 4,000 hybrids on the RHS Plant Finder in a kaleidoscope of colours - all but blue and pure white. Out of these emerge favourites such as Hemerocallis 'Stafford' AGM, with just the qualities to look out for. There are so many different varieties nurseries tend to carry different stock, but the flowers here aren't squashed among the foliage but elegantly positioned well above it, and the flowers are in proportion to the rest of the plant.
