Eye and Contact Lens: Foreword by Teruo Nishida

摘要

The advances over the past few decades have contributed substantially to better understanding of the physiology and pathology of the cornea and have thus allowed us to better serve individuals affected by corneal diseases. I have chaired the Ophthalmology Department at Yamaguchi University, Ube City, Yamaguchi, Japan since October 1993. Our mission has been both to contribute to visual welfare worldwide through basic research in ophthalmology and visual sciences and to provide the best in eye care to individuals in Yamaguchi. It has been a great dream of mine that we would one day be able to host an international symposium on the cornea in my hometown and to invite the many giants in this field. On the occasion of my retirement, my mentors, old and new friends, and colleagues from all over the world helped me to realize my dream. It was my great pleasure and honor to host this symposium in the hope that it may promote future insights into the cornea and its diseases.
