Low-Cost Emissions Retrofits Could Extend Coal-Plant Lives 30 Years: DOE

New low-cost retrofit emissions-control technologies could extend the life of old coal-fired power plants by some 20 to 30 years, U.S. Dept. of Energy estimates. In tests on an old, 100-MW coal-fired plant at AES Greenridge facilities in Dresden, N.Y., the new technology retrofits showed that the plant could meet "increasingly stringent emissions regulations while continuing operations another 20-30 years," DOE said.
