The effects of azamethiphos and trichlorfon on the control of Diplectanum aequans (Monogenea: Diplectanidae) infestations in cultured broodstock sea bass, Dicentrarchus labrax.

The efficacy of oral administration of azamethiphos and trichlorfon on cultured broodstock sea bass (Dicentarchus labrax) naturally infected with Diplectanum aequans was investigated at a fish hatchery in the Aegean Region. Two different trials were carried out on different groups of sea bass. Three broodstock fish were sampled and parasites on their gills were counted. Totally, 3946 parasites were found on the three sea bass gills. Triclorfon (50 mg kg-1) and azamethiphos (2 mg kg-1) were administered in-feed for 5 days. After the treatment, 3 fish from each medicated groups, were sacrificed, weighed and parasites on the gills were counted. Mean intensities were 2 and 115, in the trichlorfon and azamethiphos groups, respectively. No mortality occurred and adverse drug reactions or palatability problems were not associated with the treatments during the study.
