Adjoint models are powerful tools for answering a critical aspect of many of the scientific questions we pose: How sensitive to arbitrary input perturbations is a model's result? The Workshops on the Applications of Adjoint Models in Dynamic Meteorology are open meetings designed to facilitate scientific exchange and teaching about the wide range of applications of dynamical adjoint models in meteorology. All of the workshops are convened at low-cost, self-contained conference centers in rural areaswhere participants are given ample time to converse over meals and evening socials. The formats are designed for encouraging questioning as well as extended discussion, and always include tutorials on fundamental topics. Speakers are specifically askedto teach others something about what they have learned from their research rather than primarily advertise what they have done. The topics addressed are determined after solicitation of the research community.
