Motion artefact in multidetector CT in a child with severe chest injury resembling serious pathology

A 14-year-old boy was presented to the emergency department with dyspnoea and chest pain after severe chest injury due to a fall from a high tree.Sagittal reconstruction of multidetector computed tomography (MDCT) shows motion artefact in the manubrium of the sternum resembling severe fracture (figures 1).Lateral X-ray of the sternum (figures 2) excluded fracture and confirmed the diagnosis of motion artefact.Chest traumas are a significant cause of mortality and morbidity, especially in the younger population.
