Domestic electrician invents LED guide light system

CONSUMER Our sister publication, Plastics News, has reported on the Kick-starter crowdfunding campaign started by Jeremy Smith, an electrician from Utah, USA. Snap Rays guide lights are electrical socket covers made of ABS with a bottom edge equipped with light emitting diodes (LEDs). The LEDs automatically turn on in the dark, making them useful as emergency guide lights or night lights for children's bedrooms. The devices can be installed simply by snapping over existing power outlets. The user simply needs to turn off the power, snap on the plate, and turn the power back on again. Smith has patented a design whereby metal prongs embedded in the device draw power from the socket without any hard-wiring.
