摘要

We read with particular interest the article by Ribeiro et al in the July 2007 issue of European Urology. Using a cohort of 60 patients with prostate cancer (archived paraffin-embedded biopsy sample blocks) and fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH), they demonstrated that a gain of Sq was independently associated with poor disease-specific survival. They chose a dual-color probe flanking the MYC gene at Sq24.1 and controlled the ploidy of the sample with a centromeric probe for chromosome 18. Moreover, they affirm that instead of using a probe for chromosome 8, which is not readily available with a SpectrumAqua label, they used a centromeric probe for chromosome 18 and applied a MYC/CEP18 ratio that reflects the relative MYC copy number adjusted for the ploidy level of the sample.
