Direct Hydride/Silyl Exchange-Synthesis and X-ray Study of the Bis(silyl) Complex [Cp_2NbH(SiCl_3)_2]

Niobocene trihydride reacts directly with with the chlorosilanes SiCl_2R'R"(R',R"=Me,Ph) and SiCl_3Me to give the dihydridomonosilyl derivatives [Cp_2Nb(H)_2(SiCl_nR_(3-n)] (n=1,2),whereas the analogous reaction with SiCl_4 affords [Cl_2Nb-(H)_2(SiCl_3)] and the bis(silyl) complex [Cp_2NbH(SiCl_3)_2],whose X-ray structure was determined.
